Your info is so helpful. Im 23 and I just enlisted at Meps on 11/22. Im excited, just nervous about getting a crappy job. My recruiter told me I would have a job before basic; I didnt know that you can get jobs not on the list.
Most people won’t find out their job until the end of basic. You can put them on your list at MEPS, but you also have to put a category of jobs. You may not get one of the jobs you picked, but you’ll at least get one from the category you picked.
Now I’m scared. I’m stressing myself out so much about my job. I just had to take off command post after I figured out what it was. So what jobs do you usually get stuck with in the open category?
It’s impossible to say. It just depends on what they need at that given time. It changes all the time, as you can imagine. Security forces is in the open category and a lot of people assume they’ll get that, but they need people in other jobs as well. But, you could get one of the jobs on your list as well. Luck of the draw really, unless you get it guaranteed in your contract before you go, which is rare.
Well good thing I didnt qualify for the security force! I did pretty well on my ASVAB so Im hoping they need me somewhere important. Thank you for your time-you have been more helpful and honest than my recruiter.
How did you not qualify for Security Forces? They have the lowest ASVAB scores you can get, or close to it.
Either way, any job is what you make of it. Some people love being cops, and other people hate what some would consider a cool job like intel or medical or whatever. You can make any job enjoyable or horrible.
Thats true. Most of my list of jobs are not things I would consider in the civilian world, but Im keeping an open mind. I think my hearing test at MEPs got botched, thats why I dont qualify for the security forces. I dont think I have bad hearing..my headphones just werent on tight enough. That and the linguist position werent availible to me.

Can I sign up with the Buddy Program? what is it? how many people can i sign up with?
That’s a good question for the recruiter, I am not aware of the specifics of that program since I didn’t use it myself.
Is Intelligence a good job. I am prefering Geospatial Intell.
Yes, you can make good money when you get out of the military and you get a high level security clearance. It can involve a lot of deployments though, depending on what kind of intel you do.
is there a program where i can enlsit say 4 years and seperate from the air force so i can go to college then re-enlsit after getting my degree? what is the program name?
You can read about the program. Or you could just do four years, get the GI Bill, go to school on the GI Bill, then apply to OTS and try to come back in as an officer. No guarantee that you’d be able to come back in that way though.
I AM IN THE DEP PROGRAM, AND I GOT A TICKET FOR NOT STOPPING LONG ENOUGH T A RED LIGHT . IF I GET IT PAID FOR OR DISPUTED BEFORE I LEAVE TO BASIC WILL I BE OKAY ,.. HOW SHOULD I GO ABOUT HANDLING THIS . I WILL BE CONTACTING MY RECRUTIER IN THE MORNING TO TALK TO HIM ABOUT IT AS WELL . I JUST NEED SOME HELP ON WHAT TO DO. MY MIND IS GOING CRAZY !!
Definitely tell your recruiter. I don’t think it will prevent you from going to BMT or joining, but it could if you lie about it and they find out later. Also if this is your first ticket or you at least don’t already have dozens of them, you should be fine. Just be honest about it. Things happen, but they really don’t want is for someone to lie to them.

oky i just really dont want it to mess things up for me .. everyone keeps telling me it wont since it is just a minor infraction, i have been working way to hard to get this far and i dont know what id do if it ruined things. i am going to call my recrutier in the morning and let him know. thank you for the feedback i really appreciate it .. i have other tickets but it has been a year and a half since the last time i had one.
Yeah you should be fine. Unless you have a really bad history of tickets it’s not a big deal. Lying about it however is, so good on you for calling your recruiter.
